When to Choose Urgent Care vs. an ER for Your Pet

Not every medical concern needs a full emergency room — but waiting for a regular vet appointment isn’t always an option. That’s where Swan Harbor Pet Urgent Care steps in.

 Choose Urgent Care For:

A tired bulldog rests on the floor with a green hot water bottle on its back, against a white background, conveying exhaustion.

  • Vomiting or diarrhea

  • Ear infections, coughing, sneezing

  • Minor injuries or limping

  • Eye redness or irritation

  • Skin issues, hot spots, itching

  • Wound care, dog fights.

  • Urgent Care = Serious but Stable: Non-life-threatening issues needing prompt attention usually resolve in one visit.

 Choose an ER For:

Surgical tools on a teal cloth, including scissors, forceps, gauze, and kidney dish with packets. Clinical, organized setting.

  • Difficulty breathing

  • Loss of consciousness or seizures

  • Major trauma (hit by a car, exposed bones)

  • Ingestion of toxic items

  • ER = Critical & Unstable: Your pet needs immediate, advanced intervention, possible overnight care, or surgery.

  • 24 hour care

Our walk-in model means no appointment stress, just come in, check in, and we’ll help. Swan Harbor Pet Urgent Care is open Monday through Friday from 9:00 am to 3:30 pm. Call ahead if you have any questions. 443-869-4104
