Spring Has Sprung… and So Have the Zoomies!

Winter coats are shedding, sidewalks are drying, and suddenly, your pet has discovered speed. Yes, friends, spring zoomies are officially in season! As the weather warms in Baltimore, pets feel that fresh-air energy just like we do. More outdoor time, more chances for adventure… and the occasional oops.

Yorkshire Terrier runs joyfully on green grass with an orange ball in its mouth. The setting is a backyard with blurred patio furniture.

Common spring zoomie mishaps we see:

Golden Retriever walking on a stone path in a garden, surrounded by green grass and trees. The dog looks happy with its tongue out.
  • Paw pad scrapes from enthusiastic pavement sprints

  • Minor sprains from high‑velocity backyard turns

  • Thorn or splinter encounters from new plant growth

  • Fence‑line “I can totally jump that now” attempts

Keep the fun (and safety) high:

Beagle giving paw to two people outdoors. Dog is happy with its tongue out. Person in blue plaid shirt, another with white watch.

  • Do a quick yard sweep for sticks, debris, and sharp edges

  • Ease back into longer walks after winter couch mode

  • Check paws after outdoor play—especially in parks or trails

  • Keep hydration handy (zoomies + warmer temps = thirsty work!)

If your pet’s spring enthusiasm leads to a limp, cut, or sudden ouch, Swan Harbor Pet Urgent Care is here for same‑day care—so the zoomies can continue safely. Because nothing says spring like a happy, healthy dash across fresh grass.
